Cathy Stewart is a founder of the Independence Party and the party’s five borough coordinator as well as the Manhattan County Chair.

 

One of the most popular programs offered by the NYCIP, Politics for the People is designed to give an inside look at politics and history from an independent’s point of view.  The class uses a variety of formats and explores a wide range of topics.  Whether featuring a guest speaker or a panel discussion, every class includes an in-depth Q & A session with audience members.

  • The Albany Shake Up, from an Independent Point of View with special guest, State Senator Pedro Espada, Majority leader

  • Independents Post Election Analysis: How do Independents Map the Political Map?

  • The Fight for Open Primaries; featured leading election law attorney Harry Kresky currently representing independents in a federal case in Idaho.

  • The ABC’s of Column C: How the Independence Party of New York City became the true voice of reform and political independence; a class specially designed for new members.

  • A Brief History of How Independents Have Expanded American Democracy: The tensions, turmoil’s and triumphs of movement building. Featuring special guest, Dr. Omar Ali, Professor Towson University.

The classes have been held in all five boroughs of New York City, as well as Nassau, Monroe and Broome County.
